Creating and safeguarding a democratic Australia

We are an independent, not-for-profit organisation working to build a democratic Australia that is centred on the public interest and active public participation.

Our vision

A thriving democracy where all parts of society are open, accountable and act in the public interest, and an informed and empowered public plays an active and meaningful role in civic and political life.

Our mission

To foster the social and political systems and a culture of democratic thinking and practice.

Our Work

We take a systemic, holistic and collective impact approach to creating a democratic Australia,
including through reimagining what democracy should and could be, and building a community and movement of action.

Our key initiatives:

Transformative Democratic Education

We work with students and educators to equip and empower students to think critically about democracy and be active participants in society.

Systems change and advocacy

We drive and advocate for systems, policy,
and cultural change to ensure that our social and political systems are fit for purpose.

Community capacity building

We inform, equip and empower people, communities and organisations to practice democracy in everyday and civic life,
and to take action for broader systems change.
